During the Christmas season I had asked Ken Timmerman, the father of Morgan Timmerman, who last August entered Religious Life as a postulant in a new order known as the Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus, to see if Morgan could offer us an update on how she is doing. Here is her letter:
Dear Sacred Heart parishioners,
Fr. Pedersen has asked me to share an update on how I’m doing since entering the Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus, and I’m happy to do so!
As a postulant, I am receiving formation to help me know and live religious life well. This means that I am taking many classes – on the Church’s teachings and history; on religious life and the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience; on philosophy; and on prayer. I also have a spiritual director that I meet with regularly to talk about my prayer life. And I’ve been shadowing the professed sisters in their apostolates – teaching religion classes at the Catholic high school and working in the diocesan Office of Worship.
Some of the greatest blessings I’ve received have been sharing in community life here at the convent. We spend our meal and recreation time together so that we really experience our community as a family, and so I have come to know and love each of the sisters more. Each week I also look forward to teaching my 6th grade CCD class at the parish. I love seeing how curious and open my students are to receiving the faith. Another blessing has been partaking more fully in the faith. Another blessing has been partaking more fully in the liturgical life of the Church with daily in our chapel and praying the Divine Office throughout the day.
God has brought me a lot of joy and given me many graces in these past few months. Please continue to pray for me during this time of formation with the Handmaids. The next step in my discernment will be to receive the habit and my new religious name. God willing, investiture will take place in August on the Feast of the Transfiguration. Thank you so much for your generous support and know of my prayers for you as well!
Please keep Morgan in your prayers as she continues her discernment and formation. Check out the Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus to learn more about them and ways you can support them.
